Robbie Rivera Talks to FM About the Future of House Music
|
One of the most well known names in
electronic music, Robbie Rivera has taken his Juicy
Music brand to new heights, with album releases, events,
and a roster of djs that features some of the most creative
minds in house music. FM caught up with Rivera at
Club Nikki for a quick chat where the annual Juicy Music event for Winter
Music Conference week brought thousands of fans together
for some amazing sounds and dizzying party sessions:
We’re here with FM with one of the finest exports from Puerto
Rico, Robbie Rivera, how does it feel to be back in Miami, I know its
obviously your second home.
Well I live here, and it’s insane, this party is really insane
dude, I mean I expected a lot of people, but it’s really packed.
How are you looking forward to Winter Music this year, how do you think
its changing? I mean it looks like a lot of artists, even hip-hop
artists, are starting to sample music from the genre [of electronic music].
Yeah, a lot are getting into electro now, there are some hip-hop tracks
that sample some old school electro, but yeah this year is about the
parties again, the last three years everything has changed, there are
parties in every single club, different talent playing in different clubs,
and I get to do my Juicy Beach, bringing 15 to 25 of the hottest DJs
at the moment, and all the djs have to be friends of mine to play here,
and I saw Sander Van Dorn playing, he really killed it, I checked out
Donald [Glaude], I mean it’s a lot of fun out here.
Where do you see electronic music, house, other styles going, not in
the next few years, that’s a long time span, but in the next few
months?
Well I think electronic music is being influenced a lot by the 80s and
90’s right now, which is a good thing, because you know the old
people like me enjoy that (laughs), but there’s a lot of sampling
of old stuff going on right now. I see trance dying out a bit,
and I see electro house really taking over, I see a lot of trance DJs
that are friends of mine, like PvD, Tiesto they’re starting to
play house music, it all goes back to house baby!
I know you’re a busy man a lot people are waiting
to hear from you, I wanted to say I’m a big fan, we’re all
looking forward to your music for the next few years.
