Paul van Dyk Clinches Prestigious
DJ Title
for Second Consecutive Year
Fans across the globe have once again
named Paul van Dyk as the World's No.1 DJ for the second consecutive year. The Grammy nominated artist, composer, producer and political activist was announced as the winner at a ceremony held at London's
Fabric Club on Wednesday, October 25th.
DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs Poll, the most
prestigious reference point for DJs around the world drew almost 250,000
votes from 235 countries, indicating that dance music is rapidly growing
beyond its core audience.
"To be voted No.1 last year was a great honor, and to win it for a second time is very special," van Dyk said. "I'd like to dedicate the award to all those involved in electronic music who make and play the records we love. The amount of votes in this year's
Poll is testament to the continuing strength of our scene, and that in difficult
global times, our culture stands as a positive force in uniting people from
different cultural backgrounds through music."
PvD, as he is affectionately known by his fans, is renowned as one of the hardest working artists with sold-out tours across the globe, headlining spots at every festival, and a flurry of awards to match.
Aside from his musical activity, Paul
van Dyk has always dedicated a significant part of his life to politics and
social justice: after growing up in communist East Germany, PvD became the
only electronic artist involved with the Rock The Vote campaign in 2004 with
a national tour, joining P Diddy, the Black Eyed Peas and Mary J. Blige among
others in encouraging America's youth to sign up to vote in the presidential election. His charitable activities have ranged from benefits for Ground Hero Kids after 9/11 and for the Red Cross after the Tsunami disaster and Hurricane Katrina to his support for the Akanksha children's charity in India's
Mumbai province and his partnership scheme with the German Red Cross to help
poor and disadvantaged children in Berlin. He was most recently awarded a
medal of honor by the State of Berlin, to recognize his unique accomplishments
and dedication.
Paul van Dyk continues to tour the world as part of his VONYC Sessions tour to promote VONYC.com a unique combined internet radio station and download site created by van Dyk in order to make the music he champions easily accessible to fans all over the world.
Paul van Dyk just completed his remix
of the new Depeche Mode single "Martyr" and is spending any time which remains
between tour dates in his Berlin studio or with other artists recording material
for his next studio album which is due out next year.
