With
the election just days away, songs dealing with political
issues are taking over the airways.
(PRWEB) October 31,
2004 --From JadaKiss to Eminem, they are all taking
political Jabs at the current administration. One songs
that stands out however is 'Stepping Razor' by Bookman
which holds nothing back and lay it all on the table.
First Michael Powell
had it out on the air with radio disc jockey Howard
Stern. Then before that could cool off, the song ‘Stepping
Razor’ by Bookman began picking up a lot of steam
on all the major music download sites including Itunes,
Napster and NetMusic. The song refers to Colin Powell
as a republican who ‘…went from a strong
Black man to George Bush’s little slut.’
While the song is critical
of the entire administration for their blunders and
quick to shoot mentality, it seems to take a harsher
stance on Colin Powel than it does on the other major
players within the Bush administration.
When ask why such a
harsh stance was taken against Colin Powell, Bookman
replied: ‘Well I am a Jamaican and he is of Jamaican
heritage, so I hold him to a much higher standard than
I do Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld or Rice. When that high
standard is compromise then it is only natural that
he be shown the errors of his ways through words, powers
and sounds. As a matter of fact the Bush administration
refers to John Kerry as a flip flopper but if you look
at how Colin Powell as change his stance on major issues
to fit in with the administration or to try to show
the media that he is in agreement with Rumsfeld and
Cheney, he is probably the biggest flip flopper of
all times. He makes Kerry look like a stubborn bull.’
Bookman disagrees that
the song is just jumping on the latest political bandwagon,
which has entertainers taking sides with either the
Democratic or the Republican Party. ‘Actually
this song was released in December of 2003 on the album
‘Any Type War’ but it was only known in
the reggae community. It is lately that people are
seeing that what is now being talked about daily on
CNN and Fox was already mentioned in the song’.
The song was released by TCOOO productions which has
just released a new album entitled ‘18 Karat
Reggae Gold’, Bookman is also on this album,
but this time he is in a much calmer mood and is not
taking any political jabs. He leaves the political
commentaries to his label mates Zego Zaro with songs
such as ‘Babylon leave me alone’ and ‘Ring
like Bell’. There is also Afayah and Attorney
with political songs called
‘That’s how the story goes’ and ‘Heathen
no like’ respectively.
Both ‘Any Type
war’ containing Stepping Razor and ’18
Karat Reggae Gold’ is available at Amazon and
CD Baby (www.cdbaby.com/reggaegold, www.cdbaby.com/anytypewar).
The single Stepping Razor along with the other songs
from ‘Any Type War’ can be downloaded from
Itunes, Napster, Netmusic and almost all other major
digital download sites. |
