Ultra Records Announces Public Enemy Remix Project
Ultra Records have begun an exciting electronica/dance
remix project of PUBLIC ENEMY songs,
via an arrangement with Public Enemy’s publisher
Reach Global and Public Enemy. The first set
of remixes from FERRY CORSTEN, BENNY BENASSI and DON
DIABLO of PE classics “Bring The Noise” and “Give
It Up” will be released on August 21, 2007.
States Public Enemy’s CHUCK D: “I am pleased
to acknowledge that PUBLIC ENEMY’s words and
music are both considered classic and timeless; here
it’s split in half so the lyrics and rhythms
can move the dance floor with new sounds from the sonic
wizards of today. This is an appropriate and exciting
project, since Public Enemy evolved from the same elements
of DJ diversity that helped formulate dance and electronica
in the first place.”
Adds CHUCK D about each remixer:“Don Diablo’s remix of ‘Give It Up’ incorporates
today’s modern DJ and remix techniques, giving
new energy to a song that was recorded over a decade
ago.
With Flavor Flav and the bounce of the track, this
rocks in a whole new way.”
“’Bring The Noise’ is a perfect track
to experiment with. Its pace, energy and lyrics make
for an interesting mix of potential ideas. Ferry
Corsten makes the ultimate concoction of all these
elements like a mad scientist.”
“Benny Benassi takes his trademark house/Euro
sound and incorporates traces of trance to mind-bend
the listener into a haze of consciousness. Benny
certainly can bring the noise.”
Patrick Moxey, President of Ultra Records, comments, “I’m
delighted to work with Reach Global and Chuck D on
the Public Enemy project. In 1989-90 I worked with
Public Enemy at Rush Artist Management so it’s
great to be working again with Chuck D, adding a new
audience to his great hits. Many thanks to Michael
and Scott of Reach Global for reaching out to Ultra
Records with this project. The first set of remixes
is amazing.”
Michael Closter and Scott Rubin, of Reach Global Music
Publishing (publisher for Chuck D and Public Enemy),
said: “Public Enemy’s frenetic musical
energy and Chuck D’s lyrical prowess have always
been influential and inspirational to the DJ culture. Trendsetters
such as THE PRODIGY, MOBY, TRICKY, THE BEATFREAKZ,
DJ SPOOKY, DJ Z-TRIP and others have sampled, mashed
and incorporated PE into their music. With Chuck D’s
support, we felt it would be an obvious partnership
to align ourselves with Patrick Moxey and Ultra Records
to create under one roof, the first Public Enemy approved
DJ remix project.”
